Chapter 4

“This is the enrolment notice from a school in Ameria. My grandson has to go to the best school.” Both Jane and Jack thanked Camila.

“Let’s have a drink,” Jane suggested, and everyone raised their wine glasses.

However, I kept my head low to drink the chicken soup. When Camila saw that, she shouted angrily, “Get up now to toast the birthday girl!”

The wine glass was placed in front of me. I wanted to ask for Julian’s help, but his focus was on Jane. As expected, men were unreliable.

I lifted the glass and poured the wine on the floor. Camila looked at me in shock. Even Julian turned to look at me.

“What are you doing?” Julian scolded me angrily.

“Didn’t Camila ask me to toast her?” I feigned innocence.

“How rude! Get my walking stick!” Camila got up to walk toward me. “I must punish you today, so you will learn the ways of my family.”

A servant came with a wooden walking stick.

Julian did not react.

“Mom, don’t sink to her level. Jack is still here.” Jane stepped in to throw some nice words for me.

I sensibly stayed quiet.

Camila calmed down when Jack was mentioned, but she still warned me that no one could help me if I did it again.

Again? The divorce agreement was already drafted.

“Oh, there’s still a pot of soup in the kitchen. Eira, can you help me with it?” Jane purposely asked me to head to the kitchen with her.

I did as she asked.

“Don’t thank me. I don’t want you to die at my home.”

“Aren’t you the one who wants to see me dead the most? Then, you guys can be a legitimate family.”

“Yeah, but not now.”

Jane carried the pot of soup to the dining table and asked me to move the food. The next second, the pot slipped from her hands and crashed on the floor. It landed next to my feet. The boiling soup and broken pieces covered my feet and legs.

Julian quickly picked up Jane into his arms.

“Let me take you upstairs to change your clothes. Then, I’ll drive you to the hospital.”

Next to them, I was standing and bleeding.

Camila pointed at me as if she were watching a show. “You’d better divorce Julian. I don’t want a woman who can’t get pregnant.”

Julian carried Jane upstairs.

I knew that it was meaningless for me to linger. I grabbed my bag and walked toward the door.

Julian did not even look at me as he rushed past me with Jane in his arms. He placed her in the front seat.

“Jane, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have brought her here.”

“Julian, I’m very glad to see you, but you’re so anxious about me. Won’t Eira get mad?”

“You’re more important than anyone else.” Julian caressed the necklace around Jane’s neck.

Jane saw me passing before she kissed him and aimed a smug and challenging look my way.

Julian passionately and gently kissed her back. They became absorbed in the kiss while sitting in the car.

I could not watch them and turned away to leave the manor.

I went to a hospital alone to tend to my burns. The doctor told me that they were mild and would get better with some ointment.

I looked at the burned and flushed skin on my legs. There were some blisters and scratches.

I loved wearing skirts, but my legs had become like this.

I took a flight to Bernholm and sent the drafted divorce agreement to Gunter Residence by express delivery.
